When compared to the standard quality, the Diagnostic Grade Material has improved solubility specifically for use in Microbiological Culture Media. Esculin is a coumarin; a natural product found in the bark of, for example, the Horse Chestnut Tree with various applications.
In Microbiology, when added to Bile Salts with Ferric Citrate, a dark brown colour indciates a positive test for various Bacterium; notably Enterococcus and Aerococcus Esculin is also a flourescent dye, changing from colourless at pH 1.5 to flourescent blue at pH 2. Documented applications in the Pharmaceutical Market have also been extenesively cited.
